ALBANY – Nicola Sainato, 57, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2006 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. He was born in Gioiosa, Reggio Calabria, Italy and was the son of the late Francesco and Marianna Coluccio Sainato.
He was co-founder of Sainato's Market in Albany and worked for thirty years with Hudson River Construction. Nick was employed with George Weston Bakery. He loved gardening, especially his fig trees and grapevines. He enjoyed cooking, attending his son's football and soccer games and spending time with his two dogs.
Nick is the beloved husband of Lisa Sainato. He is the devoted father of Francesco and Christopher Sainato. Also surviving are his siblings, Teresa Sainato, Catarina (Guiseppe) Agostino, Carmella Ritorto (late Rocco), Luigi (Kathy) Sainato, Maria (Tony) Pasqualino and Rosa (Scott) Veltman. His is the godfather of Vince Pasqualino and Elaina Sainato. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses at Albany Medical Center and the staff of C.C.U. for the care they gave to Nick during his illness.
Funeral services will be Monday morning at 11:00 at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
