COLONIE – Nicola Spiezio, 75, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Nicola was born on April 7, 1937 in Vitulazio, Italy and was the son of the late Luigi and Rosa (DelMese) Spiezio. He worked for Freihofer's Baking Co. in Albany for 22 years before retiring in 2000; prior to that he worked for Local 190 for 22 years. He loved his garden, playing bocce, bowling, watching soccer and baseball and was an avid NY Yankees fan. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Albany.
Nicola is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Nicolina (DiStasio) Spiezio; his loving sons, Luigi Spiezio (wife, Christina Spiezio), Anthony Spiezio (fiancée, Christina Bernard), and Giovanni "Johnny" Spiezio; his brother, Anthony Spiezio (the late, Alfonsina); his sisters, Maddalena DiNardo (the late Vincenzo), Giuseppina Russo, and Maria Simeone (Liberato); his mother-in-law, Assunta DiStasio (the late, Anthony); his brother-in-law, Giovanni DiStasio (Patti) and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his K-9 companion, Ziggy and predeceased by his bird, Willie.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 a.m. Monday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, then to Blessed Sacrament Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
