Latham- Noel G. Espina, PhD, 65, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. Noel was the son of the late Jose and Montserrat Espina. Noel was the devoted husband to Jennifer S. Kolak and loving father to Erik and Alex Espina.
Noel and Jennifer enjoyed spending their time together going on walks at Lyons Park and reading books while Jennifer fished. Noel's time with Erik and Alex was spent by imparting words of wisdom and sharing his life lessons and philosophies, often while recruiting their help with household repairs or on long car rides. He became a fixture in many circles related to his boys' interests, especially the Niskayuna and local wrestling communities where he was a well known wrestling dad. Noel also enjoyed spending time with his entire family at holiday dinners and special events. He loved to travel and to ski. Noel had a fond love of nature and National Parks. He enjoyed spending his time teaching microbiology to future nurses at Schenectady County Community College.
In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by his siblings, Tito (Minnie) Espina, Elsie (Robert) Lojac, Bernadette Espina, Philip Espina, Peter (Ana) Espina, Michael (Lori) Espina, Daniel (Maureen) Espina, Therese (James) DiRenzo, and John (Mayra) Espina; 35 nieces and nephews; 12 grandnieces and grandnephews; and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Noel is predeceased by his siblings, Margaret (Robert) Espina and Rose (Kevin) Caggiano; and niece, Genevieve Espina.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, New York 12189 on Friday, February 19, 2021 from 10am to 11:30am. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 11:30am. Gathering size within our chapels will be based on the most current NYS occupancy requirements. Masks are required and social distancing is to be observed inside and outside of our chapels.
