Nora E. Wright

May 9, 1931 — July 14, 2022

Schenectady - Nora (Albrecht) Wright, 91, passed away on July 14, 2022 at Saratoga Hospital, with her children by her side. A life-long resident of the area, Nora was born on May 9, 1931 to Joseph and Alice (Griffin) Albrecht. She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1949. She married Arthur Wright in 1950 and raised three children, Glen, Douglas, and Cheryl. Nora worked for a short time as a clerk at General Electric (a family tradition), as an assistant in several medical offices, and waitressed at Gibby's Diner in Quaker Street for a number of years before going to work for the State of New York. She retired from the Department of Agriculture and Markets in 1996 after 25 years of service.
Nora loved being outside, tending to her yard and flowers (she mowed her own lawn until the age of 90!) and feeding the birds. She also loved reading, knitting, baking, crossword puzzles and Jeopardy. In the 80s and 90s, she kicked up her heels with a local square-dancing group. Nora enjoyed spending time at the family's camp on Sacandaga Lake, and traveled to California for several weeks most years after her daughter moved to Los Angeles in 1987. She was a fun, warm and wonderful mother and grandma who will be missed beyond measure.
She is survived by her spouse, Arthur Wright of Delanson; a brother, Leon (Anita) Albrecht of Schenectady; son Douglas (Barbara) Wright of Galway; daughter Cheryl Wright Olsen of Schenectady and Valencia, CA; and five grandchildren: Olivia, Carly and Schuyler Olsen, and Andrew and Adam Wright. She was predeceased by her beloved son Glen of Mayfield, NY; her sister Margaret (Albrecht) Gibson; and her brother, Joey Albrecht. In accordance with her wishes, no formal funeral services were held.Nora's ashes will be laid to rest with her son, Glen in the family plot at Memory Gardens. Donations in Nora's honor may be made to American Cancer Society or the ASPCA. Arrangements are under the direction of New Comer Cremations & Funerals, Colonie
