Norman Donnelly

September 16, 1933 — May 8, 2018

LATHAM - Norman Donnelly, 84, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, peacefully at home, with his family around him, after a courageous 10-year battle with Parkinson Disease.

Born and raised in Utica, NY, he was the son of the late Bryon (Grumpy) and Mildred Donnelly.

Norm served his country in the US Air Force. He was stationed on Guam in the South Pacific. From there he was transferred to Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas at Carswell AFB. It was while stationed there, he went to Shreveport, LA and met his wife Dora. They were married on July 4, 1957 and there's been fireworks ever since. They moved to Latham, NY in 1964.

Norm worked at American Steel, Woodward Company and Home Depot where he was a salesman in plumbing-heating and industrial supply. He retired from the Home Depot.

Norm enjoyed Lionel Trains, especially the O Gauge, deer hunting, and he was an avid sports fan that loved to watch a good Yankee game. He always enjoyed traveling and relaxation music. He loved being part of the Avant Guard Jr. Drum and Bugle Corp where he drove the old school bus for all those kids. But, his greatest love of all was his wife, Dora and Norm was her greatest love. A real true love story.

Norm was a member of the local Chapter of AARP, the American Legion Post #1520, and the H.B. Kuhn Senior Center, where he and Dora were in charge of the Day Trips for two tears and enjoyed square dancing. He was also a realtor with Century 21 and Weichert Realtors for several years.
Norm is survived by Dora, his loving wife of 61 years; his son, Jeff Donnelly of Cohoes; his daughters, Carol Ann Aube of Berne-Knox and Patricia (Chris) Lewis of Ravena; and two grandchildren, Kyle and Savanna Glick both of Berne-Knox.

The family wishes to thank Eileen, Penny, Mary and Pastor John, the special folks from Community Hospice of Rensselaer, NY; Jenny from the Respite at the Eddy; Dr. Phillips from the VA Hospital; and special friends, Henry and Carmela.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 15th, at 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY. Calling hours will precede the service from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A private interment will be held in the Crown Hill Memorial Park, Route 12, Clinton, NY at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Norman Donnelly to The Community Hospice, Gift Processing Center, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
