Nuala DeSacia passed peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. Born on February 13, 1941 in Dublin, Ireland. She was the beloved wife of James DeSacia, for over 54 years. She was born and raised in Ireland and met James in Paris, France. Eventually she moved to NYC where she worked for the United Nations. She and James married and raised 4 children,. Eamon (Caryn/Max), Colette (Mike) Gallagher, Colin (Maryann) and Ian (Huma). She had 9 grandchildren that were all very special and connected to her; Hannah, Aidan and Jack Gallagher, Morgan, Ryan, Avery and Amaal DeSacia and Ryan and Alex Schacter.
She loved all things connected to family. As a mother, she insisted that the family ate dinner together every night, no matter what the daily schedule looked like. She attended every sporting event or activity that her four children or grandchildren participated in. She believed that every accomplishment and occasion should be celebrated. She built a home that everyone in the neighborhood flocked to. There was always a full house. She hosted every Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner with the family every single year of her life, including Christmas just passed.
Nuala worked for many years at Murray and Zuckerman, Inc. as an Office Manager. Her co-workers were like a second family.
She was the third born child of Brian Scullion and Ivy Coates. She had five siblings, Deirdre (Paddy), Colette (Len), Noel (Kathleen), Desmond (Estelle) and Sheelagh. Her siblings all lived in Ireland and Nuala traveled to see them often, as they did the same. Her much loved nieces and nephews Gerry, Brian, Louise and John McGarry, Victoria Brown, Ann Marie Hurley, Rebecca and Sarah Jane Scullion.
Nuala was predeceased by her son Eamon, sister Sheelagh, brother Noel, brother in law Donald DeSacia, nephew Brian McGarry and grandson Alex Schachter.
Many thanks to those that provided care for her as her health needs increased. Her attentive team at Albany Associates and Cardiology, Dr. Fillipone, Aleta, Tracy and Amy, and her Hospice nurses Brittany and Missy. A very special thanks to Sylvana, Maria, Debbie, Margaret, Kay and Tricia for their outstanding care and friendships with my mother.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Nuala's name to the American Heart Association.
