Albany- Olive G. Perina, 85, passed away suddenly at St. Peter's Hospital on Wednesday, January 18, 2005.
Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Olive Gabriel. Olive was a very independent and giving woman who spent all of her life taking care of others. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who worked hard to provide for her family. Olive worked for AlTech Steel in Watervliet for many years before retiring. She was the first woman in the United States to work as a foreman in a steel mill. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Latham where she was very active in church fundraisers and a member of the Colonie Senior Citizens where she was past treasurer.
Olive is survived by her beloved daughter Carol Rule and her husband, Steve Kudlacik of Scotia. She is the cherished grandmother of Tara Rule. She is the cousin of George Frommer and his wife, Mary of Delmar. Olive is also survived by her very close friend and godfather of her daughter Carol, Harold VanBuren and his wife Sue of Latham. Also surviving are her close lifelong friends, Evelyn Hakim, Ann Kulzer, Rose Muller………………..
A celebration of Olive's life will be held at a later date. The family has requested that no flowers be sent. Instead, they would be honored if memorial contributions were made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 or the Arthritis Foundation of Northeastern New York, 1717 Central Avenue, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Olive G. Perina.
