Olivia A.Jones O'Donoghue

d. April 14, 2007

LOUDONVILLE - Olivia Jones O'Donoghue, of Loudonville, passed away early Saturday morning, April 14, 2007, at Albany Medical Center, after a long illness, in the company of her family. She was 67.

Olivia was born in Franklin, Tennessee, was the daughter of the late William Justis and Eleanor (Wade) Jones, and grew up on the family farm at Turkey Creek, Tennessee, graduating from Columbia Central High School in 1958. She was a 1962 graduate of Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, and moved to the Capital District in 1964 to accept a teaching position at the State University of New York at Albany, after attending graduate school at Penn State University.

Olivia is survived by her husband of 41 years, C. Kevin O'Donoghue, and her three children, Christopher (Kristen) of Providence RI, Katelyn of Swampscott, MA, and Megan of Brookline, MA and her grandson Ryan Jones O'Donoghue. She is also survived by her brother Jim Jones (Lee Brown) of Turkey Creek, TN and her brother-in-law Denis O'Donoghue (Anita) of Plano, TX, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of wonderful friends and neighbors, all of whom she touched in the most wonderful ways.

Olivia also devoted many of her efforts to the edification of others; after seeing to the education of her three children, she turned her attentions toward assisting others in finding educational opportunities, teaching Expository Writing and Composition at Schenectady County Community College and at LaGuardia Community College in Queens, NY. As a devoted member for almost 40 years to PEO, the National Women's Philanthropic Educational Organization, she organized fundraisers dedicated to the support of education for women of need. In recent years, she served on the board at Girls Inc., worked with the 15 Love program, and she was on the program committee with the Oasis Institute's Senior Education Program at SUNY, Albany. Olivia had a lifelong interest in the theatre; she had an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts, and performed at the Corning Summer Theater in Elmira, New York in 1963 and 1964.

A memorial service, open to all, celebrating Olivia's lifelong contributions to the quality of the lives of everyone she touched will be held at River Stone Manor in Glenville, NY at 10 a.m. Saturday April 21st.
