Oscar Meyer (Bob), 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 15, 2010 after a long illness. He was bon in Buffalo to the late Oscar J. Meyer, Sr. and Ruth (Smith) Meyer. He was also predeceased by his brother, William Meyer.
Bob proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a self employed Land Surveyor in the Capital District until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the Colonie Elks lodge 2192 where he served as a Trustee and Treasurer for several years. He loved playing baseball and was once scouted by the Boston Red Sox as a pitcher. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling and traveling.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia (Hanifin) Meyer. He is the proud father of Christopher Meyer and his wife Frances, Sandra Rutter and husband Tom, Carol Meyer and Gregg Meyer. He is the cherished grandfather of Nicole Meyer, Kristina Meyer, Christopher Meyer Jr. and John Meyer. He is also survived by his brother James Meyer.
Family and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be at the privacy of the family.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Albany County Nursing Home, resident activity fund, 780 Albany Shaker Road, Albany NY 12211 in Bob's honor. Our sincere thanks to the fifth floor, who always showed great care and compassion for our loved one, especially in his final days.
