Patricia R. Holmes

Colonie- Patricia R. Holmes, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 10, 2016 with her loving family at her side. Pat was born in Albany on November 7, 1938 to the late John and Elizabeth O'Connor.

Pat graduated from Philip Schuyler High School in Albany in 1956 and was Queen of the senior prom in that year. She worked for many years as a secretary and administrative assistant for several public and private organizations, most recently Schlumberger in Latham, NY.

Pat loved gardening, decorating her home, and playing golf. She also enjoyed playing and watching tennis as well as reading. She was an excellent cook, although she usually looked for ways to avoid it. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pat and her husband enjoyed spending winters in Venice, Florida.

She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who adored her family to a fault. Pat cared deeply for other people and always put them first; her love was unconditional.

Pat is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Ted Holmes; her children, Anita (Mike) Jones, Stephen (Hali) Holmes, Christopher (Elizabeth) Holmes; son-in-law, Sheldon Collins; daughter-in-law, Natalie Holmes; grandchildren, Nicole (Jay) Williams, Danielle (Joe) Franklin, Lyndsi (Josh) Wickert, Briana Holmes, Mikaela Holmes, Alexandra Holmes, and Benjamin Holmes; brother-in-law Richard (Katey) Holmes; sister-in-law, Barbara (Dennis) O'Hare; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pat was predeceased by her son Theodore J. Holmes and her granddaughter Ashley C. (Josh) Holmes-Swirsky. She was also predeceased by her siblings, John J. O'Connor, Timothy (Barbara) O'Connor, and Lisa (John) Corbitt.

Pat's family would like to especially thank Dr. Mary Ellen Drislane, and also Dr. Lawrence Garbo, the staff of St. Peter's Hospital, the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, and the staff of Our Lady of Mercy Life Center for their loving care and compassion.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 from 5pm-8pm at New Comer Funeral Home, Colonie. Family and friends are invited to gather at New Comer Funeral Home at 7:45am on Thursday with a procession to Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Ave., Albany, NY 12206, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9am.
