Patrick A. DeAmelia, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family.
Patrick was born in Albany, NY on March 16th,1940 to the late Patrick P. and Angeline DeAmelia.
He was a proud graduate of the last class of Cathedral Academy and received an Associate’s degree from Hudson Valley Community College. Pat was involved and had a love for athletics his entire life. He was an outstanding athlete in basketball, football and particularly baseball where he was a star pitcher for both Cathedral and the American Legion. His hopes of one day playing professional baseball were cut short by a career ending arm injury.
After graduation Pat went to work for the Montgomery Ward corporation and soon became the youngest department manager in their history. He left Montgomery Ward to start a plumbing and heating business. After a few years, he and his partners decided to sell the business. He then went to work for Modern Kitchens of Syracuse where he remained for 42 years until his retirement. He built the Albany division of MKS into a regional powerhouse selling nationally known, upscale kitchen products like Sub Zero, Wolf, and Woodmode custom cabinetry to regional builders and retail outlets throughout New York.
Pat was a lifelong Yankee fan and managed multiple championship Little League and Babe Ruth youth baseball teams that his sons played on, as well as several all-star teams.
Patrick was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 57 years Barbara Leader DeAmelia, his parents, Patrick and Angeline, his sister Virginia (Joseph) Breslin, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his four sons, Steven (Kim), Victor, Mark (Stella) and Eric DeAmelia. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Justin, Stephanie, Mark (Destiny), Kimberly (CJ), Isabella, Nayana (their mother Laura), his step grandchildren Nicholas, Melissa and Kayla Brandon, his great grandchildren; Riley, Ethan, and Oliver; his brother Frederick (Holly) DeAmelia, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He is also survived by his companion and partner of 7 years Betty Kuhn, her daughter Paula Paniccia (Sarah) and granddaughter Shaye.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Patrick’s name can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 4PM – 7PM at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205 the funeral will take place on Saturday March 1, 2025 at the funeral home from 9:30AM to 10:30AM. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens; 983 Watervliet Shaker Road, Albany, NY 12205.
