ALBANY – Patrick J. Gabriel, Sr., 89, succumbed at the Teresian House early Monday morning August 6, 2012 after an eight year struggle against Alzheimer's disease. Born in Albany, Patrick was the son of the late Biagio Gabriel and Annunziata (Ruzza) Gabriel of Colonie, NY. He is predeceased by sisters, Virginia Nash and Mary Lorini and brothers, Raymond Gabriel, Sr. and Ronald Gabriel, Sr. Pat served proudly in the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII building landing strips and barracks on Okinawa for pilots flying missions in the Pacific. Following the war Pat became a member of the Albany Police Department, leaving to become a carpenter for his brother-in-law, the late John Quadrini. In 1958 he went to work for St. Anne Institute in Albany where he became the Maintenance Supervisor until his retirement in 1988.
Pat was married to the late Carmella A. (Alvaro) Gabriel for 45 years. He is survived by his sister, Anna Quadrini; his daughter, Nancy E. Wideman and her husband Thomas L. Frazier; his son, Patrick J. Gabriel, Jr. and his wife Theresa M. Gabriel; his grandchildren, James R. Murley, Dana L. Toles, Cara M. Gabriel and Nicholas P. Gabriel and four great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon Friday at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumpter Ave., (Westmere) Albany. Calling hours will precede the Mass from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday at the church. Interment will be held at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie.
