Patrick C. Smith, 83, of Nokomis, Florida and formally of Colonie, NY passed away following a brief illness on November 1, 2023.
He was born August 16, 1940 in Bronx, NY to Marguerite and Cornelius Smith.
Patrick played high school football and after graduation he went on to join the Navy. He served time on the U.S.S. Corry (DDR-817) before receiving an honorable discharge.
He spent his work career as a commercial truck driver with Dorn Transportation and then Teals Express. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 294. He was the shop steward at the time of his retirement in 1998. Patrick was a former member of the West Crescent Fire Department and was an active firefighter and fire police with the West Albany Fire Department for over 40 years.
Patrick enjoyed time with his family and friends in both New York and Florida. He coached little league in his younger years and spent his life enjoying the sport of hunting, fishing, golfing and bowling. He also loved to cook, finding a passion for it while serving in the Navy. He really enjoyed his time playing poker with his family and friends. He didn't have a good "poker face" because he would always smile when he had a good hand!
Pat is survived by his beloved wife of 47 wonderful years, Mary A. Smith. He is also survived by his two sisters, Virginia Pulver (and late Donald), and Lorette Carr (Fred), sons Timothy Smith, Michael Smith and a daughter Maria Mullins (Thomas), step sons Joseph Quell (Teresa), Jeffrey Quell (Anna), and the late John Quell (Mary) as well as 11 Grandchildren: Brittany Fisher, Shannon Petrone, Alexander Smith and Michaella Smith, along with Joe Quell Jr., Raymond (RJ) Quell, Crystal Quell, Andrew Quell, Kayleigh Martin, Shaun Quell and Jennifer Nelson. He also has 13 Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 10am-12pm with a service to be held at 12pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals 343 New Karner Road Colonie, NY 12205. Interment immediately following the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
