Paul E. Messmer

CANTON-Paul E. Messmer, 56 of Canton, NY passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY the son of the late Erich and Shirley (Newcomb) Messmer. Paul was raised in Colonie, NY and graduated from Colonie High School, Class of 1976. He most recently resided in Canton, NY. Paul was a bus driver for St. Lawrence NYSARC and he considered his coworkers at NYSARC as his second family. He was a wonderful brother, brother in law, uncle and friend. Paul inspired those around him with his unbelievable strength, positive outlook, and faith in God during his illness. He most recently resided at Albany County Nursing Home in the B Wing during his battle with cancer. Paul was known for his kind words, funny stories, his impersonations, sense of humor and his perseverance.
Paul is survived by his brother and sister in law David J. (Bonnie) Messmer, his nephew Erich Messmer and extended Messmer family in Germany.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Albany County Nursing Home for the exceptional care that Paul received.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie with a memorial service to immediately follow at 7PM.
A graveside service will be held at Memory Gardens, Colonie on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 9:00 AM.
