Paul J. Mccarran

March 13, 1932 — December 9, 2020

Paul James McCarran, Sr. died in Albany NY on December 9, 2020 at the age of 88 after a long illness.

Paul was born in Lynn Massachusetts in 1932, his parent's second and youngest son. After a childhood on Boston's north shore, which included boy scouting and playingsnare and bass drums in the Swampscott High School marching band, he attended Stockbridge Agricultural College before joining the US NAVY as a Radioman. In 1954 he married Joanne Petersen of Cohasset MA.

Paul joined HP HOOD, Inc. as a driver and eventually a sales representative in Syracuse and Albany New York. A people-person, Paul enjoyed sharing all things icecream and dairy with customers and friends, travelling throughout upper and central New York State. Paul didn't attend Woodstock Music Festival in 1969 but a HOOD ice cream truck was there in the midst of it all. The truck became stuck in the field of mudand ran out of power to keep the freezer cold, so the driver gave all the ice cream away before it completely melted. Bethel NY was in Paul's central NY region so he drove down the following Monday, arranged to have the truck towed out of the field and wasforever able to say he went to Woodstock. He completed his career working with a local food brokerage based in Albany NY.

Paul was a member of St. Pius X Church in Loudonville for over 50 years. He volunteered in many ways as a member of the parish, Cub Scout leader, Boy Scout leader, usher, Minster of Communion and lector. For years he was known as the church BINGO caller with the Boston accent. He found many friends in this community and was a friend to many.

Paul loved golf and the Boston Red Sox. He followed in his father's footsteps by working for HP HOOD and being a life-long Red Sox fan. If you knew Paul McCarranyou knew he was a Red Sox fan as he was often wearing Red Sox garb and announcing his loyalty wherever he went.

Mr. McCarran was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joanne, his brother Fran McCarran and his mother and father. He is survived by his children Mary Alice Cotugno(Paul Cotugno), Paul McCarran, Jr. (Mary McCarran), Kathy Harrington (Bob Harrington), Beth McCarran and Pete McCarran (Cindy McCarran); his grandchildren Paul Cotugno, Nicole Cotugno (Joe Reifenberger), Jonathan Cotugno (Sara Cotugno), David McCarran (Joni McCarran), Paul Graly,Michael McCarran, Bobby Harrington, Raven Hetzler, Heron Hetzler, Keil McCarran and Mairead McCarran; his wife's sister Joyce Heapes, and 5 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. After Joanne passed away Paul decided that there was no suchthing as saying "I love you" too often so family and friends heard him say this regularly over many years and he meant it. We loved him too.

To the many friends Paul met and shared with along the way, he loved and appreciated you. His family is grateful to you for all the help and support he received.

The family would like to invite you to a funeral mass at St. Pius X church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville, NY 12211, on December 29th, 2021 at 11:30 a.m.

Contributions in his memory can be made to the Red Sox Foundation in support of the Jimmy Fund. https://www.redsoxfoundation.org/supported-programs/jimmy-fund/or the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York https://regionalfoodbank.net/.
