Guilderland – Paul G. Wachtel, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Springs Nursing and Rehab Center after a long illness. Born in Troy, he is the son of the late George and Esther Wachtel.
Paul proudly served his country in the United States Army at Fort Benning, GA where he worked as a heavy duty equipment operator. He was employed by County Excavation from 1964-1982 where he continued to work with backhoes, bulldozers and loaders. Paul was later employed by the Town of Guilderland and Manheim Auto Auction in Clifton Park, before his retirement in 2012 for health reasons.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Florence "Flo" Wachtel; his twins George Wachtel and Paula Wachtel Caldwell; his grandchildren, Jacqueline, Christina, Bobbie, Joseph, Michael, Jake, Samantha and Matthew; his brother, Ernest Wachtel; his step-children, Linda, David and Brenda. He is also survived by nephews Brian and Jay, and his great-granddaughter Hailey.
In addition to his parents Paul was predeceased by his sister Jeanie.
His family wishes to thank all of the doctors and nurses who cared for Paul throughout his illness at Memorial Hospital and his caregivers at the Springs Nursing Home in Troy.
Calling hours for Paul will be held Tuesday, November 25th from 4-7 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home. Funeral services for Paul will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday November 26th at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home. Paul will be laid to rest at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Wednesday November 26th at 12:00 p.m. with full military honors.
