COLONIE – Paul William Strube, 80, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, February 13, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Paul was born on November 1, 1928 in Albany and was the son of the late Edward and Loretta (Langohr) Strube. He graduated from Philip Schuyler High School in 1947. He worked for the New York Telephone Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1982 as a special service foreman. He then was a South Colonie School Bus Driver for 3 ½ years.
Paul served in the US Army during the Korean War, spending his second year in Germany. Upon his return from military service, he moved to South Colonie. He was a South Colonie School Board member for 12 years in the 1960's and 1970's. He is a member of Guttenberg Lodge No. 737 F. & A.M., the Colonie Elks Lodge 2192 and the Telecom Pioneers. Paul is a charter member of the Community Reformed Church of Colonie. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed his summers and vacations on the Great Sacandaga Lake with his family, friends and his yellow lab, Trapper.
Paul is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis E. (Peabody) Strube; his sons, Ken Strube and his wife JoAnn of Albany and Mark Strube and his wife Christine of Troy; his daughter, Barbara Donahue and her husband Mark of Ballston Spa; six grandchildren, Joseph, Franklin, Meghan and Jordan Strube, Shannon Donahue and Lauren Villasenor; his brother-in-law, Frank Peabody; his sister-in-law, Barbara (Peabody) DeBevoise and her husband John; seven nieces, one nephew and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Paul is also survived by two cousins, Phyllis Strube Schlosser and her husband Al and Donald Feeney and his wife JoAn.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Community Hospice of Albany for the care given to Paul, especially Pat, Terry and Renee.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Community Reformed Church of Colonie. Calling hours will be held at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family at Memory's Garden in Colonie.
