Paula A. Nicpon

July 3, 1936 — March 17, 2013

SCHENECTADY – Paula A. Nicpon, 76, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Mary's Haven in Saratoga Springs, NY, after a seven year battle with cancer. The world lost a wonderful, gentle, woman.

Paula was born July 3, 1936 in Schenectady, NY to the late Anna (Rakvica) Pivacek and Robert Pivacek. Paula attended Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady.

Paula married the love of her life, Chester Nicpon on September 18, 1956. She then had her only child, Maryanne Nicpon on September 10, 1961. Soon after, Paula started a job at Albany Public Market. Later on, she moved to General Electric, and then Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, retiring in the late 1990's to care for her mother.

Paula was an animal lover her entire life, and always had at least one dog or cat that she shared her life with. Paula also spent much time and money feeding the neighborhood stray cats, when all of the rescue organizations were too full to help.

Paula is survived by her loving daughter, Maryanne Nicpon; her nephews, David Kerr (Jeannie) and Michael Pivacek both of Colorado; her cousins, Pauline Staszak (and her son, Scott), Karen Malaczynski (Richard), Lynne Faught (Ray) (and her son, Stephen), and John Rakvica all of Schenectady; Mark Rakvica (Renee) of Texas; Cindy Hayes, David Rakvica, and Daniel Rakvica; and many dear friends. Paula was predeceased by her loving husband, Chester, and her brother, Robert.

It is devastating to think of this world without Paula in it and many very sad people are left behind. But Paula has been patiently waiting for nearly 22 years to reunite with her love, Chester. It is a great solace to think that she is now with him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Schenectady. Entombment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mary's Haven, 35 New Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
