Paulus Elmselig, 95, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2011. He was born in Manhattan, N.Y.C. on September 14, 1916, and his ancestral roots are directly from the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. His life-span of activities covered the fields of education, the military, industry, entertainment, and business management. He obtained teacher accreditation in the American Accordionists' Association, after passing a qualifying examination, in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, which included overseas service and an honorable discharge with the rank of sergeant in 1946. He entered silversmith apprenticeship through the G.I. Bill of Rights after the war and acquired full journeyman status in 4 years. He next completed a special course in fine aluminum brazing at the Eutectuc Welding Institute of the Eutectic Welding Corp., Flushing, N.Y., a division of CIBA, Switzerland, in 1952, and likewise with a "Supervision Industrial" course at Arlington High School, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., in 1955 & 56. He was also a promotional organizer and charter member of the Westchester County Chapter of the Society for Advancement of Management in 1956, and further, completed a special course of "Middle Management Development" at Cornell University in 1957. His writings and publications include "Employee Orientation" 1956; "Basic Logic in Management Development" 1958; and "The Men behind the Dowager Empress" 1974. By choice, Paulus Elmselig went full-time professional as an entertainer in 1958, ultimately highlighted by a guest spot on Arthur Godfrey's coast-to-coast radio show on C.B.S. on October of 1964, which resulted in the purchase of several tapes of that radio show from C.B.S. by Lowenbrau Brauerei, Munich, Germany. He achieved a record-breaking music, accordion, and songs engagement of well over 25 years at the Mountain Brauhaus, Round Top, N.Y. (Catskill Mtns.), as well as actual ownership from 1970 to 1978, within those 25 years. Secondary active engagements included New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Florida. Paulus was a member of the national American Legion, and was a member of the Germania Hall of Troy, N.Y., and the German Club of Albany, N.Y. with his wife Elizabeth. Paul is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his son Jeffrey of Sante Fe, New Mexico, and his step-sons Lawrence Abele and Paul Abele. His brother William of Staten Island, N.Y., predeceased Paulus in November 2004.
A memorial service will be held for Paulus Elmselig on Thursday from 5 to 8pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Interment will be at the privacy of the family.
