Peggy Ann Gabriel

Peggy Ann Morrison Gabriel, 88, of Colonie, NY passed away on December 1, 2023 following an extended illness at home surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was the wife of the late Loreto Louis "Lou" Gabriel.
Peggy was born in Alexander County, NC to the late Carl Morrison and Zora Pierce Morrison Sherrill. Peggy was a graduate of Scott's High School, Class of 1954, where she was on the girls basketball team. Soon after graduation, while visiting her sister and brother- in-law in Albany, Peggy decided to get a job and stay in New York. Peggy had a few jobs in her early career, but most notably she was a product salesperson for Tobin Packing Company in Albany. It was working this job when she met her future husband Lou Gabriel while making a sales call to Lou's family's store, Gabriel's Food Market in Schenectady. Peggy later joined Lou by working in the office of his commercial construction business.
In addition to spending time with family and traveling a few times a year to visit family and friends back in North Carolina, Peggy was a die-hard New York Yankees fan – rarely missing a game – and she was also very proud in keeping up with current events and politics. In her early adult life, before she developed arthritis and could no longer do it, she enjoyed oil painting.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Marci Gabriel Hickey and Brian Hickey; grandchildren, Allie, Connor and John Hickey; sister, Carlene M. Morrison, sisters-in-law, Carolyn H. Sherrill; Rita Gabriel, Margaret P. Gabriel and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Peggy was predeceased by brothers, Jack A. Morrison and Reggie Sherrill; sisters, Hazel M. Gilleland and Sylvia M. Roberts; sisters-in-law Nancy Gabriel, Carolyn Gabriel, Bernice Morrison; and brothers-in law, Mario Gabriel, Nunzio John Gabriel, Vito Gabriel, Louis Gabriel, Harold Gilleland, Jack Roberts and W. Jack Morrison.
Calling hours will take place on Friday, December 8,2023 from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY. Interment will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY at 2:00pm.
