Peter Charette, Watervliet – Peter “Pete” F. Charette, Jr., 77, passed peacefully after a brief illness with his family by his side at Saint Peter’s Hospital on February 11, 2025. Pete was the son of Peter and Kathryn (Phoenix) Charette.
Born in Troy on September 19, 1947, Pete spent his early years in Latham before moving to Middlebury, CT where he attended Woodbury High School. He graduated from Fairfield University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and then attended Notre Dame University where he obtained a Master of Business Administration. At Notre Dame he also completed the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Program and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He subsequently completed his service commitment in the U.S. Army Reserves. After college Pete returned to the Albany area and held management and sales positions at the Bankers Trust Company and the Prudential Insurance Company. In the later years Pete enjoyed part-time employment at the Albany Times Union and Hannaford Grocery Store.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Donna (Laskowski); son Christopher (Kelly Browne) Charette, Guilderland; daughter Kelly (Amelia Vincent) Charette, Washington DC; grandchildren Connor and Reagan Charette, Guilderland; sister Susan DeGroot, Delmar; brother Kevin (Lori Wills) Charette, Portsmouth, NH; nieces Danielle Charette (Jack) James, Richmond, VA and Natalie (David Norman) Charette, Baltimore, MD. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Diane Charette Barr and brother-in-law Franklin DeGroot.
Above all else, Pete cherished time with his family and enjoyed following the many activities of his grandchildren, particularly their sports programs. He was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame athletics, especially football, and he passed his fandom onto his son and daughter. Pete was a kind and sweet man with a quick wit. Very social, he loved to strike up conversations with family, friends and people encountered.
The family would like to thank Saint Peter’s cardiac medical team, particularly the many talented and compassionate nurses, who cared for Pete during his extended stay at the hospital.
A private memorial service will be for immediate family members. Interment will be in the spring at Saratoga National Cemetery.
