Peter J. Nantista, Jr.

ALBANY - Peter John Nantista Jr., 58, of Albany, died on Saturday, August 6, 2011 of ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig 's disease.
He is the devoted son of the late Peter J., Sr and Elizabeth Pinckney Nantista; Beloved brother of Phyllis A. Nantista, Susan E. Nantista, M. Frances Nantista, Carl W. and Lauren O'Neill Nantista, Angele Nantista Dix and James Dix, all of Albany; Lucian and Cynthia Adamchick Nantista of North Wales, PA, and Elizabeth Nantista Ruggiero and Carmine Ruggiero of North Olmsted, OH. Adored uncle of Christopher J., Jared T. and Taylor E. Dix of Albany, and Michael Ruggiero of Ohio.
Peter was a graduate of Vincentian Institute. He is retired Chief Warrant Officer, United States Coast Guard last stationed at Woods Hole, MA. His previous stations include Iwo Jima, Japan, Mackinaw Island, Michigan and Savannah, Georgia. Peter was also stationed on Governor's Island, NY. He was a retired Albany City School District plumber, a lifetime member of the Joseph E. Zaloga American Legion Post #1520. Peter was also lifetime member of the Veterans of Lansingburgh, a member of Ancient Order of Hibernians, Albany BPOE Lodge #49 and the North Troy Stag Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing enthusiast. Peter's kindness and caring for family and friends will long be remembered.
Funeral Services will be Thursday morning at 10:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will be Wednesday fro m 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. At the request of the family, memorial donations may be made in Peter's name to St. Peter's ALS Regional Center, 19 Warehouse Row, Albany, NY 12205 or Susan G.
