Peter Preiser

Slingerlands- Peter Preiser, 86, passed away on October 12, 2017 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY. Born on April 27, 1931 in New York City, he was the son of the late Julius and Doris (Singer) Preiser. A graduate of NYU and NYU Law School, Professor Preiser had a legal career that spanned over 50 years. He started his career as an Assistant District Attorney for New York County. In addition to practicing civil and criminal law he served as the New York State Director of Probation, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Corrections, Director of the Office of Crime Control Planning, Counsel to the New York State Assembly and Professor of Law at Albany Law School. He is the author of countless commentaries related to New York State Law.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia (Anderson) Preiser; his children: Douglas (Linda), Cynthia (Raymond Schnoor) and Alexander (Jody Reale); his grandchildren: Andrew, Abigail, Hannah, Lauren, and Sophia.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Sunday, October 15 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Peter's name to a charity of one's choice.
