Peter Van Antwerp Ten Eyck, age 92, of Albany, New York, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Glendale Nursing Home. He was born on October 6, 1924 in Schenectady, New York; the son of the former Mayor of Schenectady, Mills and Edith Waterman Ten Eyck. He was the husband of Margaret (Molly) Stevens Ten Eyck.
Mr. Ten Eyck attended Schenectady city schools and graduated from the Albany Academy for Boys, Class of 1943; and was Captain of the AA football team. The summer of 1942 was spent on a farm in Vermont with the Volunteer Land Corps. A Veteran of World War II, he was part of the V-12 Program at Hobart College, but transferred to the Marine Corp with the Sixth Division in the Pacific Theater. Peter attended Union College in Schenectady where he was a member of Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity and played as a guard on the winning football team in 1948.
Peter started his banking career with the Citizens Trust Co. in Schenectady in 1949. He served as President of the Schenectady Chapter of the American Institute of Banking. He retired as a Trust Officer with Key Trust in Albany in 1987. He served on the board of the Pioneer Insurance Co. of Greenville, New York, the Childs Hospital and Trinity Institution of Albany, New York. He was a member of the Holland Society of New York, the Sons of the Revolution and former member of Kiwanis Club of Scotia, New York. He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Schenectady for 74 years.
Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons, Mills, II (Stacey) of Kansas City, MO., William S. (Daphne) of East Greenwich, RI. and Peter VA. Jr (Jennifer) of Scotia, NY; grandchildren: Schuyler, Laurel, Rhys and Aidan; sister, Grace Tagliabue of Providence, RI. Peter was predeceased by his brother, Mills Ten Eyck, Jr. and his sister, Susan Bennett.
A memorial service for Peter will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands, New York.
