Peter William Young, 74, of Cairo, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at The Pines Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Catskill, NY.
Peter was born on November 19, 1945, in Catskill, NY to parents Roland A Young and Florence Saxe Young. He graduated from SUNY Oneonta in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts.
Prior to graduating college, he was drafted into the Army where he served in Giessan Germany from May 1967 to September 1968 and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal on October 11, 1968.
He worked as an Administrator at Columbia Greene Community College until he retired in 2001. After retiring he enjoyed working outdoors, where he was a Facilities Manager for the Mountain Top Arboretum. He was an avid bass guitarist throughout his adult life and performed with several bands.
Peter is survived by his beloved daughter Karen Young (Christopher) Lopez, grandchildren Caleb and Skyler Lopez, and step-daughter Melissa Crooker (Erik) Cardel.
In addition, Peter also is survived by his nephew Adam Smerznak, grand nieces Zenaida and Octavia and their mother Michele, his dear friend Holly Wanek, her daughter Emily Horn, and many loving cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother, David R. Young, sister, Ann Young Smerznak and her husband Sidney, and former wife, Linda McCracken Young.
Peter will also be missed by his beloved dog, Hercules (AKA Herkie).
A private celebration will be planned for family and close friends at a future date.
