Albany- Philip A. Avellino, 82, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 26, 2017 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany. Born in Albany, NY on July 26, 1934 he was the son of the late Antonio and Carmela (Salmeri) Avellino. Philip honorably and faithfully served his country in the US Army. After his service, he met and married the love of his life, L. Virginia Hales, and together they celebrated 44 years of marriage. She predeceased him in 2002. Philip was a member of the Teamsters, Local 294 in Albany, NY.
He is survived by his children: Cathy (Bill) Shippey, Anthony (Suzanne DeRook) Avellino, and Carmela Avellino; his grandchildren: Nicholas, Christopher, and Bailey Shippey; his great grandson, Jaycob Shippey and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents and loving wife, Philip was predeceased by his siblings: Rose, Vincent, Joseph, Mary, Angela, and John.
Philip's family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of the Community Living Center at the Stratton VA Medical Center for their loving and compassionate care.
Visitation will be held from 9 am to 11 am on Thursday, March 2 at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie. A funeral service will be held during the visitation at 10 am. Burial with military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
