Philip N. Catalfamo, 97, husband to the late Marjorie E. (Slopka), passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
Born February 15, 1926, in Albany, NY, he was the son to the late Joseph and Josephine (Georgianni) Catalfamo.
Growing up he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and swimming with his brothers and friends. Philip would play the accordion to entertain his family and friends. As a teenager, he would make grocery deliveries for Mokhiber's Market. At seventeen years old, he left Philip Schyler High School to join the Navy in WWII. Philip proudly served from 1944-1946. He was a Gunners Mate on the USS Chaffee in the Philippines.
After the war, Philip worked as an electrician for NY Central Railroad in Selkirk, NY, until 1952. He then started his own construction business. In 1955, he was married to Marjorie, and they were married for 60 years. They had four children, Dawn, Debbie, David and Dori. Philip was a devoted husband and father.
He loved to take family vacations and he was an avid sports fan. He especially loved to go to NY Mets and Siena Basketball games. Philip was an avid reader, loved to work in the garden. He loved carpentry, woodworking, and building furniture.
Philip is survived by his son David Catalfamo, and daughters Dawn (John) Simon, Dori (Leonardo) Parla; his brother Victor (Shirley) Catalfamo; his grandchildren Christopher and Sarah Parla, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Debbie, his brothers John (Diane), Salvatore, Joseph, and Anthony Catalfamo, and his sister Sadie (Anthony) Paratore.
Friends and family are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 from 10:00 am – 11:00am with a Funeral Mass to begin at 11:00am at The Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St., Albany NY 12208. Interment will follow at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Shuylerville, NY.
If you will be joining us at Saratoga National Cemetery, please arrive by 1:15pm.
When you enter the main gate, the funeral procession will be lined up on the right. Please wait there for further instructions.
If you arrive before 1:15pm, you may risk entering a procession for another funeral. Please alert cemetery staff when you arrive if you are worried/don't see familiar faces.
We will be escorted to the Pavilion Service Site at 1:30pm (if services are running on time)
