Philip J. Maiello, 96, of Albany, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Stratton VA Medical Center with his loving family by his side.


Philip was born in Albany and was the son of the late Frank Maiello and Pasqua (Fisone) Maiello. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Gloria R. (Touchette) Maiello of Whitehall, NY.

He proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II 1942-1946. Following his discharge he worked for Tobin Packing in West Albany for 29 years.


A devout Roman Catholic, Philip was formerly a member of Our Lady of Angels Parish prior to it's closure and currently was a communicant of St. Mary's Historic Church. He was also a proud member of the Zaloga Post, Colonie Elks, Polish-American Club and the American-Italian Heritage Museum. Philip enjoyed spending time with his entire family, he enjoyed going out to dinner, vacationing, square-dancing, and was an avid Yankee and Giants fan. Philip especially cherished attending his grandchildren's music concerts and sporting events.


Philip is survived by his wife Gloria R. Maiello, his children; Philip F. (Rosanne) Maiello, Gloria (Ernie) Casile, John A. Maiello, Thomas E. (Sonia) Maiello and Mary Anne (Joe) Volpe, his 13 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Also survived by two sisters; Bessie Reside and Jean Williams. Besides his parents, Philip was predeceased by his five sisters; Mary Ranalli, Gen Jabonaski, Angela Ranalli, Anna Graber and Rose Wagner; his mother and father in-law Bernadette and Albert Touchette of Whitehall, NY; brothers-in-law Edgar Touchette, Frederick Touchette, Leonard Touchette, Laurence Touchette and Rev. Marc L. Touchette and sister-in-law Marguerite Evans.


Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy-Schenectady Road (Rt. 2) in Watervliet on Wednesday, October 4th from 4 to 7 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday morning, October 5th from Historic St. Mary's Church on Capitol Hill, 10 Lodge Street in Albany, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m.

Interment with military honors will follow the mass in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.

For their kind and compassionate care, the Maiello Family would like to thank Dr. Julie Phillips, Jody Varn, R.N., and the Staff of the V.A. Medical Center.
