Philip Mucci

ALBANY – Philip Mucci, 90, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in San Giovanni, Rotundo, Italy to the late Patsy and Concetta Mucci. After immigrating to the United States, he lived in Albany since 1934. Philip was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during World War II in the North Africa, European and Pacific Theaters. He owned and operated Phil's Food Market for thirty-six years before retiring. After his retirement, Phil and his wife competed in ballroom dancing competitions in both the United States and Canada, winning awards for first place and second place. He was a founding member of the Italian American Community Center where he served as a board member for ten years, a member of the Sons of Italy Intangible Lodge and served as chairman of the Cooley's Anemia Foundation.

Philip was the beloved husband of fifty-six years to the late Angelina J. Mucci. He is the devoted father of Patrick J. (Beverly) Mucci of East Greenbush, Connie (Joseph) Dominski of Albany and Dominic F. (Deborah) Mucci of Long Beach, Long Island. He is the loving brother of Ann (the late Millard) Keneston, Isabell (Nicholas) Mancini and the late Anthony Mucci. Philip is the cherished grandfather of Philip M. Mucci, Gina (Dale) Erno, Philip C. (Quinn) Mucci, Steven P. (Elizabeth) Mucci, Christopher (Isabel) Dominski and the late Angelina M. Mucci (Sillitto). He is the adored great-grandfather of Mina J. Sillitto, Angelina R. Erno, William T. Mucci and Jackson I. Mucci. Also surviving is his companion, Catherine Benedict and several nieces and nephews.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Clare's Church, Colonie. Calling hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Entombment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
