Phyllis Byrne passed away on February 14th, 2022. She was 92. Born August 14, 1929 in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the daughter of the late Adah Owlett and Dr. Raymond S. Byrne. Phyllis was predeceased by her sister, E. Joyce Maloney and brother, Donald Charles Byrne.
She attended the Poughkeepsie Day School and later in life pursued further educational studies and certifications in multiple areas of interest especially medicine and nursing care which she found very interesting and satisfying. Her entrepreneurial side led her to open and operate a gift shop on Main Street in Poughkeepsie during the 1950's.
Phyllis was a fiercely independent, outspoken, strong willed, persevering, capable and resourceful woman. She was also very intelligent, inquisitive, forward thinking, fashionable, engaged with the world around her and knowledgeable in a wide number of areas.
She kept up with current world and domestic events, by watching TV news and discussion programs and reading the New York Times daily. She also very much enjoyed watching Masterpiece theater, playing Mahjong and reading from her collection of history and health related books as well as her books on religion and the Bible.
Phyllis, through all the ups and downs of family life, always valued the idea of family. She devoted significant years of her life caring for her paternal grandmother, mother, father, great Aunt and sister as the need arose. She had many friendships, both old and new, that she treasured. Phyllis also diligently cared for and greatly loved her recently departed cat, Marco.
May she rest in peace, we will miss her and hold our memories of her dear.
