DELMAR — Pio Buonanno, 67, of Delmar, passed away with loving family and friends by his side on Monday November 20, 2023, at Albany Medical Center. Pio is survived by his loving wife, Tina (Endres), of 36 years, and their three children, who all loved their dad very much, TiaMarie, Nicholas (Rachael), and Arianna. Pio was born in Benevento, Italy, and was the baby of 14 siblings. He is predeceased by his parents Alessandro and Margherita Buonanno. He is survived by several siblings, Gina Buonanno, Maria (Antonio) Marchio, Gemma Petti, Carmela Pontario, Marianna Buonanno, and Antonio Buonanno. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews and is predeceased by several siblings. Pio and several of his siblings moved to the Capital Region when he was 9 years old.
After attending Vincentian Institute High School, Pio became a tile setter for D&M Tile and Albany Marble. He was also a member of the Local 2 Bricklayers Union. Pio enjoyed working hard every day for his family up until he went into kidney failure in his late 40s. Pio received a kidney transplant in 2007 and was grateful for a second chance at life. From there, he battled through many illnesses but was strong enough to push through for nearly 20 years. Through all the illnesses, he always had a positive spirit and remained light-hearted with a sense of humor. Pio enjoyed playing games on his tablet and spending time with his wife and children. He always looked forward to traveling to Portland, Maine every year with his wife and close family friends, Jean and Dave Riggs. Everyone who knew Pio will remember him for his big personality and infectious laugh.
Family and friends are invited to say goodbye to Pio on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 4-6 p.m. with a short ceremony following at New Comer Cremations & Funerals 343 New Karner Road Colonie, NY 12205.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the nurses and doctors who took care of Pio over the years including where he took his last breath in the Intensive Care Unit at Albany Medical Center.
