Plinio Minghetti, 82, beloved husband and loving father, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Born in Livorno, Italy on October 28, 1942 he was the son of the late Eugenio and Ida (Mareschalchi) Minghetti. Plinio is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maria Luisa (Marisa) Minghetti.
Plinio and his wife Marisa immigrated to America in 1968 arriving in Long Island and eventually settling in Colonie, NY. Plinio lived his dream as an accomplished musician, drummer and singer touring the world on the cruise ship SS Shalom in the 60's as a member of the band "Il Milionari" he started up with his childhood friends. The band saw success with 2 recorded albums and performances in famous venues such as Copacobana in NYC and Ceasar's Place in Las Vegas. He continued to play and sing well into his late 70's as it was his lifelong passion to entertain, meet people and play music. Music was in his soul. He enjoyed all genres of music from opera to rock and roll and all in between.
Plinio was a devoted family man and also the life of the party and made friends easily everywhere he went, often making conversation with strangers. Those who knew him, loved him and he made a lasting impression with his gregarious and fun loving personality. In addition to music, Plinio was self taught and a brilliant man fluent in 5 languages ; Italian, English, Spanish, French and Hebrew. He was an avid connoisseur of crossword puzzles, often completing the NY Times Sunday crossword. An accomplishment considering English was not his primary language, yet his command of it seemed that it was. He had a vast knowledge of various subjects and many interests. He was indeed, the King of trivia and a Renaissance man.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children , Michael Minghetti and Samantha Minghetti, whom he adored.
He is predeceased by his parents and his cherished sisters , Piera Ramaccini and Ivetta Minghetti.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Research hospital.
Respecting his family's wishes services will be private.
