Rensselaer-
Priscilla Bouton Mayhew Nelson, 89, of Franciscan Heights Senior Community, Rensselaer, went home to the Lord on Thursday, December 17, 2020.
Born in Williamsville, NY, and lived in various parts of the state while growing up, but called Warsaw her home town, because she spent most of her school years there. When she was 17, her family moved to the Capital District, and she remained in this area throughout her life. In 1950 she married William Mayhew, and they had five children. William passed away in 1995. She married Thomas E. Nelson in 1999.
She spent many years working with volunteer groups within the schools, and also worked with Cub Scouts for 14 years. After her children were all in school, she began working in the administrative assistant field. She worked for several broadcast facilities, two insurance and investment offices, and two church offices, the last one being in the religious education program. She was fond of gardening and in later years learned to play the electronic organ. She especially enjoyed time spent with her family! Priscilla and Tom were involved in various ministries through their church, including home communion visits to those unable to get to church. They were also 'helpers' for the Coming Home Network International, mentoring people who were interested in the Catholic faith.
In addition to her first husband William, she is predeceased by her parents Kenneth and Ruth Bedell Bouton, and stepson James Nelson.
Priscilla is survived by her husband Thomas, children Peter (Leslie) Mayhew, Gail Keeler, Peggy (James) Fry, James (Mary) Mayhew, Eve Mayhew (William Decker II), 18 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren, stepchildren Wanda Nelson, Susan (Doug), Paul, Michael (Suzanne), Sonya (James), 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, sister Ellen (Jules) and brother John.
