Rachel A. Hackert

COLONIE – Rachel A. Hackert, 81, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, with her loving family and friends by her side. Born and raised in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Anna Rinaldi. Rachel then made Colonie her home for 51 years. Rachel was the matriarch and nurturer of her family. She used her nurturing and helping skills as a nurse's aide at St. Peter's Hospital for twelve years. Rachel was an accomplished artist, and took pride in her many acrylic paintings. A devout Catholic, Rachel was a communicant of Christ Our Light Catholic Church, where she was also a member of their Rosary Society. Rachel was an excellent cook who understood the social value of food. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.
Rachel is the beloved wife of 62 years to John R. Hackert. She is the devoted mother of Denise Hackert- Stoner and her husband, Scott Stoner of Loudonville. She is the loving sister of Phyllis (Ralph) Marotta of FL and the late Geraldine Tomasello and Edith (Anthony) Caprara. Rachel is the cherished grandmother of Nathan (Lorena) Hilton and Emily (Joseph Wetzel) Hilton-Wetzel. She is the adoring great-grandmother of Mia Hilton and Isabella and Greyson Wetzel. Also surviving is her brother-in-law, Dominic Tomasello, several loving nieces and nephews, and her close and dear friends, including Lucia Kern, Brother Bernard Knezich and Barbara Kline. Rachel's family would like to thank the staff of Surgical I.C.U. at Albany Medical Center for the care and compassion they gave to Rachel and her family during her stay.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Christ Our Light Catholic Church at 11:15 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Our Light Catholic Church, Rosary Society, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville, NY 12211 in memory of Rachel A. Hackert.
