Albany – Rachel Mason, 99, passed away peacefully at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center on Wednesday March 5, 2014 just 54 days short of her 100th birthday. Born in Hudson Falls she is the daughter of the late Nellie Hewitt and Louis Van Vranken.
Rachel was employed by Sterling Winthrop in Rensselaer for more than 38 years. She loved nature, flowers, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Rachel is survived by her son J. Douglas Mason, her grandchildren J. Todd Mason and Kim Jeffers, and her cherished great grandchildren Brianna Jeffers, John Jeffers, and Gavin Jeffers. She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law Mary Mason, special friend Beverley Barnes, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, and Albany County Hospice for their extraordinary care and compassion to Rachel and the family.
A memorial service for Rachel will be held Monday March 10th at 9:00 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Entombment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
