ROTTERDAM, NY – Ralph C. Andersen, Jr., 63, passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Ellis Hospital, after a courageous battle with ALS. Born in Bronx, NY he was the son of the late Ralph C. and Lillian Andersen, Sr. He was a graduate of James Monroe High School. Ralph served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War. After the war, Ralph worked as a Tech Support Analyst for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Manhattan before transferring to the Troy, NY office in 1992. He retired from Met Life in 1998 after over thirty years of service. After battling and beating cancer himself, Ralph volunteered as a driver for the American Cancer Society where he drove many patients to and from their appointments. He was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. Ralph was a computer wizard, often assisting his family and friends with their computer issues. He will especially be remembered as the ultimate caregiver to all who needed him. Ralph is the beloved husband of Barbara Coons Andersen. He is the devoted step-father of Ronald (Stephanie) Veresko and Veronica (James) Swart. Ralph is the loving brother of Peter (Miok) Andersen and uncle of Benjamin Andersen. He is the cherished grandfather of Benjamin and Martin Veresko and Cassandra and Madison Swart. Also surviving are many close and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will precede the service from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be on Monday, November 29th at 10:30 a.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. At the request of the family, memorial contributions would be appreciated to the ALS Regional Center, 19 Warehouse Row, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Ralph C. Andersen, Jr.
