Ralph Sanford Champney Jr., 81, passed away on January 10, 2015 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing home.
Ralph was born on July 4, 1933, Watertown, New York to the late Ralph and Ethel (Evans) Champney. He was also predeceased by his sister, Betty C. Italiano.
Ralph proudly served with United States Navy in the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged on July 3, 1956. He was awarded a testimonial of Honest and Faithful Service.
Ralph's executive career spanned a period of forty years. He was named Corporate Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NENY. He received many appointments and honors during his career and personal life which included serving as: President of National Association of Accountants; President and Board member of Visiting Nurse Association of Albany for twelve years; Chapter President of Planning Executives Institute of Hudson-Mohawk Chapter; Chairman of Blue Cross and Blue Shield Region 11 Accounting and Auditing Section; Board member of Pastors' Pension committee for Regional Methodist conference; and Trustee and Treasurer of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Ralph's greatest joy was spending time with his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, June Champney; his loving children: Cynthia (Joseph) Urbano of Broadlands, Virginia; Steven (Pamela) Champney of St. Augustine, Florida; and Carolyn (Michael) Vinci of Latham, NY; and his cherished grandchildren: Steffanie Urbano; Rachel, Becca and Adam Champney; and Jennifer, Kristen and Nicholas Vinci.
The family would like to thank the Blue Unit of Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home for their compassionate care of Ralph.
