Ralph Edgell

Colonie - Ralph Edgell, 97, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on November 25, 2018 at his home. Born on March 2, 1921 in Bristol, England, Ralph was the son of the late Wilfred and Edith (Williams) Edgell. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady. He then went on to serve in the United States Army as a Sergeant during WWII, seeing action in the South Pacific. Upon returning from duty, he began his career with The New York Telephone Company where he held many positions and retired after 38 years. He married Betty J. Fuller in 1949 and together they raised their family in Colonie. Ralph was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and gardening. He was a proud 32nd Degree Mason of Wadsworth Lodge #417 F. & A.M, and a member of the Cyprus Shriners, the Valley of Schenectady Scottish Rite, and past patron and grand officer of Ella Nicholson Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Ralph was a long time member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Betty Edgell; his beloved daughters: Deborah (William) Fincke, Cynthia (the late Hubert) Byrne, Colleen Edgell and Lynn (the late Theodore) Judkins; grandchildren: Jessica (Kenneth) Bonjukian, Tabitha Judkins, Isaac Judkins; and great-grandchildren, Phoebe Bonjukian, Makayla and Quincy Holmes, and Jackson and Lily Byrne; and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his faithful canine companion, Peppi.

In addition to his parents Ralph was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Koladish and his grandson, Patrick Byrne.

Ralph's family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Community Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.

Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday, November 30 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:30pm. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, December 1 at The Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 1580 Central Ave, Colonie. Burial with military honors will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, Schenectady.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ralph's name to The Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 1580 Central Ave, Colonie, NY 12205.
