Ralph A. Frey Jr.
July 7, 1927 — March 2, 2023
Colonie- Ralph A. Frey, Jr., 95 1/2, of Colonie, NY passed away peacefully Thursday, March 2, 2023, in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was born July 7, 1927, in Albany, NY, the son of late Ralph A. Frey, Sr. and Blanche Berberick Frey. He married Laurie McAllister in 1948 and was the father of two daughters whom he so enjoyed, Leslie Frey, of Manchester, CT and Melanie Langner, of Myrtle Beach, SC.
Ralph was a lifelong resident of the Albany-Colonie area and a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church of Albany. He served in both World War II and the Korean War. As a Navy Seaman First Class in the Mediterranean, he received a National Defense Service Medal and a Navy Occupation Service Medal. He worked many years as a milkman for Borden Dairy and later for the South Colonie School district as a school bus driver. In his 34 years of retirement, he enjoyed traveling, yard-work, bowling, dancing, cards, bocci, yoga, and corn hole into his 90's. He most enjoyed time spent with family and friends over a nice meal.
He and his longtime companion, Jean Burns, together both enjoyed their many friends at the Colonie Senior Center where they were both very active. Ralph moved to Myrtle Beach in July 2020 and stayed with Melanie during the pandemic. In 2021, he moved into Myrtle Beach Estates where he made many new friends. Ralph remained fully independent until the last weeks of his life and was fortunate to pass peacefully in his sleep. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Myrtle Beach Estates that provided him with the best of care. Whenever asked, he would always say he felt like he was 75.
Please join us for a celebration of life graveside service with military honors at the Roselawn in Memory Gardens in Colonie, NY on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 10:30am. As we all know, Ralph was generous to a fault and he would be pleased that any memorial donations be sent to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org., one of his favorite charities.
