GUILDERLAND – Betty R. and Ralph P. DuPont, beloved wife and husband, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at The Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital.
Born in NYC on January 5, 1916 Betty was the daughter of the late Casimir and Agata Brucas Yakaitis. Ralph was born in Becket, MA on August 22, 1917 and was the son of the late John and Julia Murphy DuPont. They were predeceased by their son, Lt. Ralph P. DuPont, Jr.
Betty was a Navy wife & homemaker who enjoyed needlepoint, Christian Science readings and spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were her pride & joy, and she was interested in politics, travel, the NY Yankees and the world around her.
Ralph honorably served in the US Navy for 20 years active duty and 10 years on reserve. During his tour of duty, he saw combat in World War II and engaged in battles in the Philippines, Iwo Jima, Guam, Okinawa and others. He also served aboard the USS Paricutin during the Korean War. He holds Fleet Unit Citation, American Defense with Atlantic, European & Pacific Theater ribbons, National Defense, World War II Victory, Korean Defense with 7 Stars, and United Nations Citation.
In 1959 he joined the Albany Chamber of Commerce; he was executive director of the Albany County Board of Realtors for 26 years, retiring in 1986. He was active on Real Estate board state & national committees, and was involved with numerous local charitable organizations. The Greater Capital Association of Realtors gives out the annual Ralph P. DuPont Recognition Award for Community Service to a deserving local realtor. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Kiwanis and the Masons, and was a life-long Boston Red Sox fan.
Betty and Ralph are survived by their loving sons, Dana & Maureen DuPont of San Diego, CA and Darrell T. DuPont & Cynthia Stalker of Brattleboro, VT; their cherished grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Lee, Cory, Trevor & Dominique; their great grandchildren Ashlyn, Hadyn Rose & Cameron. He is survived by his sister Margaret Sakaske of Chester, MA.
Funeral services will be Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at a late date at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
