ALBANY – Ralph G. Redmon, 82, went to be home with his Heavenly Father on June 3, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born December 17, 1927 in Albany, he was the son of the late Isaiah Redmon and Elizabeth (Wilson) Redmon-Diggs. Ralph was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Mamie (Connor) Redmon; his son, Christopher Redmon; grandsons Garrett and Galen Redmon; and his great-granddaughter, Savoja Thompson. He was educated in the Albany City School District and upon graduation served in the US Navy during WWII, as a chef. Ralph was a life-long, faithful member of the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a member of the choir, usher, and Chairman of the Deacon Board for several years. He was employed for many years at Albany Battery Company in Menands. Upon its closing he returned to school and received his certification as a Master Mechanic, which landed him a position with the City of Albany Police Department, serving as Supervisor/Foreman, for over 19 years until his retirement in 1992. Ralph was known for his kindness, generosity, smile, cooking, and the love for his family beyond measure.
Ralph is survived by his children, Gregory (LaTonya) Redmon of Washington, DC, Leonard Redmon, Jacqueline (Freddie) Redmon-Williams, and Celestine Redmon, all of Albany. He is the brother of Dorothy Lane of Jamaica, Queens, Thelma (C. Edward) Carter and Juanita (Edward) Johnson of Schenectady. Also surviving are his grandchildren, DeShawn Redmon of Raleigh, NC, Antoinette Redmon of Kennesaw, GA, Rosetta Redmon of Silver Springs, MD, Turquoise Turner, Darnell Adams, RayShawn Redmon, Dorjee Redmon and Elizabeth Redmon, all of Albany, and Emanuel Redmon of Washington, DC; his great-grandchildren, Aasiyah Bell of Kennesaw, GA, Taj-Elisha Thompson of Raleigh, NC, Antoine Bailey of Silver Springs, MD, Shakir Redmon, Paige Lewis, Jahsier and Jaslynne Adams, all of Albany, NY; and his adopted children, Rhotochia (Terrance) Atkins-Jones of Brooklyn, Cheryl Callahan of Laurel, MD, and Linda Dorsey of Rensselaer. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, adopted grandchildren, cousins, family and friends also survive.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday, June 11, 2010 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Albany. Funeral services will follow at 12:00pm at the church. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie.
