ALBANY - Raymond "Dugan" D. Leigh, 63, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2015. He was born on May 6, 1952 to the late Anna Mae and Fred Leigh in Albany, NY. He attended Albany City Schools. His favorite summer job was at Lincoln Park Pool where he was a certified life guard. He graduated from Albany High School in 1970. While in Albany City Schools he enjoyed playing sports and that love for sports continued all his life. He briefly attended SUNY Albany with the desire to be a History major. Through the Albany Urban League he was given the opportunity for a good job at Niagara Mohawk starting in the janitorial department and working his way up to Electrician C. He was very proud of that accomplishment. He remained with the company for 29 years and retired due to health reasons.
In 1981 he met the love of his life Doris Greene and they married a year later. From that union there were born sons and he enjoyed watching them grow and become fine young men.
At the age of 4 Raymond was introduced to the "Truth" through a friend and neighbor of his parents and Raymond began his association with Jehovah's Witnesses for a few years. That association was reignited years later and he dedicated his life to Jehovah.
Raymond enjoyed giving back to the community and volunteered his time in the Albany City Schools athletic department where he was lovingly called Coach Leigh.
Predeceased by his parents, Anna Mae and Fred Leigh, his sister, Thelma Willingham, his brothers, Fred, Charlie, Kenneth, Albert and one son Raymond D. Leigh Jr.
Left to celebrate his life are his wife, Doris G. Leigh, sons Warren (Iesha) Leigh, Christopher Leigh and Joseph Leigh, sister Dorothy Leigh, brothers Anthony Leigh and Alfred Leigh. Raymond was very proud of his one granddaughter Sydney Leigh and loved to hear her call him "grandpa". He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be held prior from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment will follow the service at Graceland Cemetery in Albany. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness, 400 Albany Shaker Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.
