PATTERSONVILLE, NY – Raymond J. Viens, 87, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Albany Medical Center, after a brief illness. Born in Tupper Lake, NY, he was the son of the late George and Delima (Ashline) Viens. He served in the U.S. Navy for twelve years in both World War II and the Korean War. Ray fought in seven invasions and served on both U.S.S. Hugh Purvis and the U.S.S. Woolsey. He was a well trained appliance repairman, at one time owning his own repair shop. He retired from General Electric Co. in Schenectady. Ray also owned and operated the former R.J.'s Tavern on Crane Street. Before moving to Pattersonville five years ago, Ray lived in Mifflinville, PA for twenty years with his late companion, Phyllis Smith. He was a member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge #2157 and the V.F.W. Post #1895. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Blanche M. (Martz) Viens. Ray is the devoted father of Debra (Daniel) Viens-Deeb and Patricia Milliman. He is the brother of Priscilla Faivre, Florence Viens, Elaine George and the late George, Arthur and Ernest Viens, Leona Richards and Gertrude Tyburski. Ray is the cherished grandfather of Jaimie, Robin, Robert, Perry and Cindy. Also surviving are several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). A graveside service will be held on Monday at 12:00 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Adult Day Health, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Raymond J. Viens.
