GUILDERLAND – Raymond E. (Bud) Saunders, 84, of Guilderland, passed away in the company of his family at his home on Sunday, April 23, 2006 after a long illness. Born in Ft. Ann, NY, Bud spent the majority of his childhood in Whitehall, NY where he graduated from high school in 1939. While living in Whitehall, he worked for the D & H Railroad and Jumbo's Market. In 1957 he moved to Port Washington, NY where he started a career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 28 years of service. He then moved to Guilderland, where he has lived for over 20 years. Bud was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a communicant of St. Madeleine Sophie Church and a life member of the Knights of Columbus. Bud is survived by his beloved wife, Helen, of 61 years. He is the devoted father of Kathleen (John) Mahoney, Elaine (Richard) Coons, Patti (Steve) Mitchell and Raymond E. (Kelly) Saunders, Jr. He is the cherished grandfather of nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters and one brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 11:30 at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, Guilderland. A calling hour will precede the Mass from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Raymond E. Saunders.
