Raymond Charles Trowbridge, 80, of Claverack, NY passed away peacefully in the presence of family at Albany Medical Center on July 22, 2023, after succumbing to a brief, but severe illness.
Raymond, known by many in the community as "Toby," was born on December 26, 1942, to Raymond Henry Trowbridge and Irma Marie Patton in Hudson, NY.
After graduating from Hudson High School in 1960, Toby joined the Navy and served on the USS Leahy (DLG/CG-16). Toby was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1963. In 1964, Toby joined the Hudson Police Department initially serving as a patrolman and retiring in 1987 at the rank of senior sergeant. Shortly thereafter, he became an electrical inspector with the New York Board of Fire Underwriters providing inspections for commercial and residential structures. Later, in the early 2000s, he was hired as the Director of Security at Columbia-Greene Community College where he served until his retirement.
Toby married Marilyn Gutch in August 1966. He is survived by his wife and two children, Meredithe and Andrew. Additionally, Toby leaves behind several half-brothers and many nieces and nephews.
Toby, a family man, was a kind, generous, and dedicated husband, father, and friend to many that knew him. With the gift of being able to strike up a conversation with just about anyone, his dry, English sense of humor will not be forgotten.
There will be a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 08, 2023, at the Church of Saint Mary, Hudson NY – Holy Trinity Parish.
