SCHENECTADY – Rebecca L. Rivers, 50, passed away on September 29, 2022.
She was born in Albany on August 31, 1972.
Rebecca Rivers, like many artistic souls, was singularly creative and always lived life on her own terms. Her mother fondly recalls Rebecca, as a young child, insisting on wearing two different colored socks at the same time, soundly rejecting the matched socks carefully laid out for her. Who knew she was so fashion savvy and ahead of her time? Colorful in socks, in art, in tattoos and in life, all hues, both light and dark, she explored and experienced, but her greatest creative achievement was her adored children: daughter, Violet and son, Xavier. They are the best of Rebecca and continue to bring her and the whole family pride and joy. Rebecca also had a powerful affinity and compassion for all animals, which prompted her to the tricky task of cat rescuing in NY City. Rebecca's utter determination and fearless passion are best summed up in a quote from Shakespeare: "And though she be but little, she is fierce." That fierceness continues on in spirit!
Rebecca is survived by her loving family: mother, Donna Hermle (Keith), her father, Gordon Barnhardt, her beloved children, Violet and Xavier, her Aunt Camille (Gerry), cousins Alexander, Roxanne (Andrew and Freddie), Aunt Theresa, Aunt Mary Jo, Uncle Bobby and cousin Jennifer.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a celebration of Rebecca's life to immediately follow at 7:00 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.
