René Daniel Facchetti, age 87, passed away on July 28, 2023 from small cell carcinoma of the prostate.
Born in Brittany, France, near Mont St. Michel, René apprenticed to become a charcutier and chef. He ultimately wound up in Paris where he met his future wife, Corinne. Corinne was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study the French theater and attend the Sorbonne in Paris. Together they raised two children, Katia and René -Yves. In the USA, René was able to realize his dream of opening his own restaurant, Chez René in Glenmont, NY. He worked side-by-side with his wife who was known for wearing traditional costumes from his native Brittany. In addition to being a passionate chef, René was a farmer, gardener, outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, avid traveler, animal lover, opera aficionado, and forager. He particularly loved foraging for chanterelle mushrooms.
René loved many animals over the years, including horses, rabbits, ducks, goats, and dogs. He loved his beagle, Maya, who stayed by his side during his illness and gave him great comfort.
René was predeceased by his wife, Corinne, to whom he was married for 57 years. He is survived by his children, Katia Facchetti (and her husband Noel Anderson) of Stamford, CT; René -Yves Facchetti (and his wife Kieu), and his grandchildren Giang Nam, Jasmine, and Sinjin of Delmar, NY. He was predeceased by his older brother, Dominique. His surviving brother, Daniel, resides in Brittany, France. He will be greatly missed by his beagle Maya.
