COLONIE – Rev. David R. Jones, 81, of Carondelet Commons passed into eternal life on Monday February 28, 2005 at Eddy Ford Nursing Home in Cohoes. He was born March 15, 1923 in West Brownville, PA, the second oldest of ten children to the late Jesse and Mary Jones.
He was a WWII Army Air Force veteran serving overseas in China-Berma-India Theatre of War. Following the war, he became a minister graduating from Nyack College in 1951. David was a Christian and Missionary Alliance Pastor for thirty seven years. His ministry included churches in Harrison Valley, PA., Scranton, PA., Milton, DE., Turnersville, NJ and Colonie, NY. He was instrumental in the building of Colonie Alliance Church where has pastored for thirteen years. He retired in Vicksburg, MS and eventually in Colonie where he endured many physical ailments before passing into the presence of the Lord.
Davis is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Martha Scherrer Jones; his children, Russell D. Jones and his wife, Mary Beth of Colonie, Gerald E. Jones and his wife Karen of Esperance and Douglas P. Jones and his wife Tina of Vicksburg, MS. He is the cherished grandfather of Nathan and Gretta Jones and Austin and Ann Ashton. Brother of Jesse H. Jones of Wilmore, KY., Raymond Jones of Pittsburgh, PA., Daniel Jones of West Brownsville, PA., Nancy Humphry of Cranberry Twp, PA., Linda Cmar of White Oak, PA and the late Carl and Richard Jones, Bertha Grimm and Shirley Nicholson.
Funeral services will be Monday morning at 11:00 at Pineview Community Church, 251 Washington Ave Ext with Rev. David Farnum, Pastor, officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 7 pm at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Entombment will be in Memorys Garden. Memorial contributions may be made to Pineview Community Church for the Great Commission Fund of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, 251 Washington Ave Ext. Albany, NY 12203
