SCHENECTADY – Rhonda L. Phillips, 51, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, after a short illness.
Rhonda was born on March 4, 1961 and is the daughter of June C. (Pearl) Lavoie and the late Dean L. Thorburn. Rhonda was a high school graduate from Laconia Christian Fellowship School, received her AA degree from CCV in St. Johnsbury, VT, and received her BA in Education from Lyndon State College in Lyndon, VT. She lived in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Arizona, Oregon, Alberta Canada, New York, Maryland, and France.
Rhonda worked as a bartender and waitress for many places, was an English tutor for elementary aged children in France, and most recently a front end clerk for Price Chopper, Inc. She was a member of the United States Chess Federation, Stephen Ministry of the First Reformed Church of America, and a member of the First Reformed Church of Schenectady.
Rhonda is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, John L. Phillips of Schenectady; her mother and stepfather, June C. and Robert Lavoie of Laconia, NH; her sister, Darlene R. (Michael Curtis) Goodrich of Northfield, VT; her brothers, Daryl D. (Penny) Thorburn of Plant City, FL and Dallas L. (Jennifer) Hollis of Loudon, NH; her grandmother, Evelyn M. Pearl of Loudon, NH; and her mother-in-law, Beth Reinke of Colonie. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many in-laws.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Reformed Church, 8 North Church Street, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Memory Gardens in Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stephen Ministry of the First Reformed Church of Schenectady, 8 North Church Street, Schenectady, NY 12305 in memory of Rhonda.
