Richard "Dick" Sichler, 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 02, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born in Queens, NY to the late John and Bertha (Rotter) Sichler. In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by brothers John, William and Edward Sichler; and a son, Eugene Schissler, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife Joan; his children, Laura Sichler, Richard Sichler, Cheryl Pomante (Andrea), Gail Moule (Scott), Sharon Ferris (Bill), Lynne Camileo, and a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Schissler; his grandchildren, Vincent, Erik, Nikki, Kara, Gina, Chantal, Billy, Scott and Gianni; his great-grandchildren, Joshua and Karina; and two lovely sisters, Mildred Holmquist and Grace Bolger, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dick served in the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge in 1953. He was a skilled metallurgist , retiring from Martin Marietta in 2000. Dick was very dedicated to his family and never missed an opportunity to take a picture. He was very active and enjoyed taking his family to Warner's Lake and the Great Escape, where he was known for riding the roller coasters with his grandkids. He was often found working diligently in his garden, and could always be counted on for a laugh.
Dick was a lover of life and will be faithfully remembered as a kind and generous husband, father, grandpa and friend.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 07 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Schenectady. Interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Schenectady will follow Mass.
